Freedom of Religion and Belief in Sweden

Anna-Sara Lind

GUEST LECTURE: Professor of Public Law, Anna-Sara Lind from the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) at Uppsala University, discusses freedom of religion and belief in Sweden.

Professor of Public Law, Anna-Sara Lind from the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) at Uppsala University, discusses the recent Report of the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, Nazila Ghanea, on her visit to Sweden, published on 1 March 2024. The report concludes that “The Government faces a number of core challenges as it grapples with the emergence of its multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. The scope of freedom of religion or belief should not be limited to the majority culture’s traditional perspective of what religion in public life ‘should’ look like.” This echoes former Special Rapportuer Heiner Bielefeldt’s report on Denmark from 2016, and we will discuss similarities and differences.

The guest lecture is held in 8A-0-57 at Faculty of Law on the 29 April 2024 from 12-14, with free lunch provided upon registration with the event at website of the Copenhagen research unit On Religion And Law, www.coral.ku.dk.
